Ismael Nascimento is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and educator with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Studio/Jazz Guitar from the USC Thornton School of Music, whose work bridges Brazilian guitar traditions and contemporary jazz.
Ismael Nascimento is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and educator whose work bridges Brazilian guitar traditions and contemporary jazz. Born in Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, he has built a career spanning international competition stages, jazz festivals, big band settings, and academic life. Nascimento is a prizewinner in international and national competitions, including third place at the Jarek Śmietana International Jazz Guitar Competition (Poland) and first place in the jazz category of the Wilson Center Guitar Competition (USA), among others. He was a member of the Amazonas Jazz Band, and has performed for the Los Angeles Jazz Society and at festivals including the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival and the Amapá Jazz Festival. In 2026, he released his debut album, Ciclos, featuring original compositions for guitar trio that draw on both Brazilian instrumental music and contemporary jazz. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Studio/Jazz Guitar from the USC Thornton School of Music (Los Angeles), where he studied with Bruce Forman, Frank Potenza, and William Kanengiser; a Bachelor's degree in Music (guitar) from Amazonas State University (UEA); and a Master's degree in Guitar from São Paulo State University (UNESP). He is Professor of Music at the Amapá State University (Brazil)
