About Me

Igor Osypov is a Ukrainian guitarist currently residing in Berlin where he attends the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB) and studies with world renowned guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel. Shortly after arriving in Berlin, he founded his Quintet, featuring some of his favorite musicians from all over Europe and the USA. Elias Stemeseder (Austria) piano, a fellow classmate of Osypov at the JIB, is one of the most in demand young pianists in Europe as well as being a regular member of avant garde drummer Jim Black’s Trio. Martin Buhl Staunstrup (Denmark) bass, is also a classmate of Osypov and Stemeseder at the JIB, and a current student of well known American bassist Greg Cohen. Before making the move to Berlin, Staunstrup was very active in the flourishing jazz scene in Copenhagen and has performed with Tomas Franck, Carl Winther, Jakob Dinesen among other Scandanavian jazz greats. Jesus Vega (USA) drums, a native of California, Vega holds a Bachelors and Masters in Jazz Studies from Sacramento State and Universtiy of Nevada, Reno and has performed/studied with, David Ake, Peter Epstein, Joe Lovano, Ingrid Jensen, Vince Lateano, Julia Dollison, Kenny Washington, Geoffrey Keezer, and Butterscotch as well as many others. Since it’s inception, the Quintet has performed at festivals all around Europe including the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in Denmark, Burghausen Jazz Woche and HFM Jazz Preis in Germany, Jazz nad Odra in Poland and Jazz a Montauban in France. The band focuses on playing original compositions that not only draw inspiration from the Jazz idiom, but other genres such as Classical and Rock. In the summer of 2014, Igor Osypov recorded his debut CD with American saxophonist Logan Richardson, due out in the spring of 2015 on Unit Records.
