About Me

Born in 1989 in Liège from a musical family, Igor Gehenot begins to play the piano at 6 years old. After 5 years of classical training he discovers the world of Jazz. He then takes private lessons while training at Amay’s music Academy.

He takes part in many Music Courses and Masterclasses to get to know the knowledge of jazz more in depth. During the courses, he will get the best teaching and musicianship from his teachers such as Dado Moroni, Salvatore Bonafede ,Antonio Sanchez, Jozef Dumoulin, Fabian Fiorini, etc.

In 2008, he successfully enters the Maastricht Conservatoire where he will work with Franck Giebels who will introduce him to the music of Bill Evans and his revolutionary approach of the trio.

He decided to continue his training at the Brussels’Conservatorium where he will have lessons with, notably, Eric Legnini & Jean-Louis Rassinfosse.

His achievement and passion for writing drives him to form a trio of his own with his friend Antoine Pierre (drums), joined later on by Sam Gerstmans (doublebass). The Trio kicked off and got selected to be part of the program for young talents “Ca Balance à Liège”.

Igor Gehenot is currently teaching jazz piano at the Academy of Waremme and he plays regularly on the jazz scene in some of the best known jazz clubs in Belgium such as the Jacques Pelzer’s Club, Music Village, Sounds, etc.

He plays in many well recognised festivals around the country (Dinant Jazz Nights, Jazz à Liège, Festival Jazz de Comblain-la-tour ) and around the world ( DimaJazz Festival in Algeria).

He also does the first parts of big renowned artists such as Toots Thielmans, Manu Katché, Peter King, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Lee Konitz, …

He carried off the prize Sabam Jazz Awards 2011 “ Young Talent “ ( ex- Django dOr )
