About Me

Growing up in a city seeped in musical culture, I learned to love music early. In high school I played piano in high school jazz band and gigged with a small combo around town. At the University of Washington - where I studied linguistics and Scandinavian studies - I worked and wrote for Earshot Jazz, in addition to playing in multiple ensembles, including a memorial band for the late composer Al Hood. I am currently pursuing my masters degree in Estonia, and researching the formal methods of composer/improvisors such as Mary Halvorson, Henry Threadgill, and Julius Hemphill.

My Jazz Story

The best show I ever attended was... Lucian Ban and Mat Maneri, touring for their ECM album "Transylvanian Concert." The first jazz record I bought was... Ornette Coleman, "This is Our Music." My advice to new listeners... Listen openly, but honestly.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
