Ian Dogole - Music Beyond Borders
For over 40 years, Ian Dogole has articulated his vision of Music Beyond Borders as a multipercussionist, bandleader, educator, recording artist and producer. He has released nine recordings and a DVD as a leader, including his latest titled The Last Trane to Africa. Ian has recorded and performed with artists such as Hamza el Din, Paul McCandless, Richie Cole and Tito La Rosa. Ian’s global array of percussion instruments includes udu, cajon, hang, djembe, talking drums, kalimba, balafon, doumbek, cymbals and miscellaneous percussion. He has received a Jazz Performance grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and multiple grants from InterMusic SF (formerly San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music) and the Marin Arts Council. Ian is very active as a music educator – having presented assemblies to more than 60,000 elementary school students as part of the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures in Music program. He has taught world music exposure classes at multiple academic institutions and presented assorted music education programs through numerous nonprofit organizations, including Bread & Roses, Young Imaginations, Youth in Arts and Young Audiences of Northern California.
