I love jazz because of the element of freedom and the playful rhythms I was first exposed to jazz through my mother's jazz records. The best show I ever attended was TrioVD at Vossajazz 2012 The first jazz record I bought was a Miles Davis LP box My advice to new listeners is to give it time and listen several times to the same tracks. Try to listen to the soloist, then next time listen to the rhythm section. Much of the fascination comes from discovering the details I remember listening to jazz as a child and youth, the music was like a strange new world, and I did not understand it at first.
