Following a lifetime listening and singing to jazz and swing music - and the good fortune to have mentor, Steve Ostrow, who booked Josephine Baker, Cab Calloway, and Margaret Whiting into his New York City nightclub - I sing like the singers people loved in the 1920s and 1930s

Based in Sydney, Australia, the Greg Poppleton Band has performed live on ABC Sydney’s special 100th anniversary of radio broadcast, played twice at the Sydney Festival, and since 2012 have been the band by popular demand for the annual Art Deco Ball. We’ve entertained at more than 700 festivals, venues, and events

We have recorded nine albums of songs from the 1920s and 1930s

The new album, Father Wanted Me to Learn a Trade, is 1920s - 1930s vocal style meets contemporary jazz. It’s a very personal album and will be released in late 2026

Film and TV actor as well as singer, Greg has acted with Nicole Kidman, John Goodman, and Adrien Brody

On radio, Greg shares his love of jazz and swing weekly on his award-winning Phantom Dancer show - broadcast online and on 30 radio stations across Australia

My Jazz Story

I caught the jazz bug age three seeing Louis Armstrong on TV. To my parent’s despair I had no interest in contemporary popular music. So I'm totally uninfluenced by it. My passion is jazz and swing from the 1920s and 1930s And after a chance meeting with a jazz singer and teacher, I began performing. Later, I studied bel canto, while retaining my jazz roots, under Steve Ostrow. Steve booked Sarah Vaughan, Cab Calloway, Josephine Baker and Margaret Whiting into his New York City nightclub.
