Butter and the Genre is a dynamic jazz collective based in Oklahoma City, founded and led by Gregory “Butter” Haubrich. The group brings together musicians from multiple generations to craft a sound rooted in jazz tradition while embracing the energy of funk, soul, and modern improvisation. Drawing inspiration from artists like Miles Davis, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Frank Sinatra, the band creates music with purpose, groove, and heart. Their debut album, Music Is Life, is set for release in 2025 via The Orchard.

My Jazz Story
If you ask why I love jazz, it's the music of freedom, of liberty, of the adventure of creating something collaboratively and collectively,
instantaneously and spontaneously. It forces us to be right here, right now -- to live in the moment, which some say is the secret to happiness.
I was first exposed to jazz in my parents' home. Dad loved big band music and subscribed to the Time-Life Big Band series. Every couple of months
we'd get a box with two LPs of re-mastered sets from one of the great bands. Goodman, Basie, Ellington. I still have about ten of those boxed sets
and play them occasionally on my stereo. These days I like Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd maybe the best of all of them.
