I love jazz because... I was first exposed to jazz...as a kid growing up with my Dad who started out as a jazz musician later becoming a composer trained in classical composition, degrees in comp/theory and musicology BUT the jazz was an integral part of his extremely eclectic and wide ranging knowledge and taste, I was lucky. I met [musician name]...James Francies at the Blues Alley in DC in 2019, I grew up in DC but had never attended a jazz club there! I was in college, majoring in piano performance (classical) in NC The first jazz record I bought was...Trio in Transition Oscar Peterson My advice to new listeners...listen! explore, so much out there available to hear, but also, go to live concerts esp now that the pandemic has eased up.. Or whatever else you have in mind.
