About Me

Fernando Ulibarri is an active performer, composer, and educator based in Miami, Florida. He relocated from his native Costa Rica to Boston in 1998 to study at the Berklee College of Music, where he graduated with a Dual Bachelor’s Degree, in both Music Synthesis and Jazz Composition. After working professionally in the New England area, he moved to Miami to attend Florida International University, where he obtained a Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance. Fernando has performed concerts at Carnegie Hall, Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica, Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club, Berklee Performance Center, The Bass Museum of arts and various other venues in the United States and abroad. He has given lectures at the Universidad de Costa Rica, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Broward College, New World School of the Arts, and on several occasions has been a clinician for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. In the winter of 2013 Fernando released his first recording as a leader. Entitled “Transform”, it features all original compositions performed by his working quartet. Fellow band mates Jim Gasior (piano), Josh Allen (bass), and John Yarling (drums) contribute their unique musical vision to nine original compositions. Fernando is currently a full-time faculty member at Broward College, where he serves as both Assistant Professor of Music and as the Program Manager of the Music Technology Area, teaching music technology and production classes, as well as ensembles and jazz guitar. He has also been on the faculty at Miami-Dade College and New World School of the Arts.
