About Me
My name is Eugene Portman and I'm a professional jazz pianist performing throughout the UK both as a soloist and as an ensemble player. My introduction to jazz happened when I heard Oscar Peterson at the tender age of Thirteen. From then on jazz has been a passion of mine. My influences all the great jazz pianists of yesteryear such as Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Teddy Wilson, Monty Alexander and George Shearing to name a few.
I am no modernist as you can tell by the pianists who have influenced me. I like a good tune and I like melodic playing. My style of playing is quite easy to listen to and accessible by most people even if they are not jazz fans.
My Jazz Story
The first jazz record I bought was Erroll Garner's "Concert by the Sea".
