About Me
My Jazz Story
Fats Waller's music is equal parts virtuoso musicianship and infectious fun. The songs of Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, and George and Ira Gershwin... the interpretations of those songs by Duke Ellington and Bille Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. The syncopation of ragtime, the stomp and swerve of vaudeville, the deep truth of the blues, and the improvisation that Louis Armstrong mixes into the batter to create jazz. There was a time when American popular music ascended to the highest echelon of human artistic achievement... maybe it happened more than once... but it certainly happened when Ethel Waters, King Oliver, Josephine Baker, Earl Hines, and Bing Crosby were cutting acoustic jazz records.
My House Concert Story
House concerts are consistently the most fun gigs we do. People listening to the music, really getting what you're doing, which happens in a club... but it's not the same when you are eating with everyone and sharing the whole experience.
