Diran Tavitjan

About Me

Diran Tavitjan was born in 1977 in Skopje, Macedonia. He got in touch with music at 6 years when he start attending piano at the classical school of music. At that time his father, one of the best drummers on the Balkans Garabet Tavitjan was member of very famous jazz-rock band called Leb i Sol. Since then he was attracted with jazz and contemporary music. Diran has a complete music education as a pianist and percussion player. Later, he had private studies of jazz theory and arranging with Ilija Pejovski who graduated at Berklee College of music class 1977. Diran is a fellowship holder of prestigious Jazz Music Academy Berklee College of music, in Boston. Tavitjan has been actively engaged in musical creativity – composing, arranging and performing. From 1995, his primary engagement became his father’s band “Garo & Paramecium” where Diran took part as a composer, arranger and performer and successfully fulfilled his working carrier till present day. The music of this band is a mixture of jazz, rock, funk and Macedonian traditional music in highly energetic manner. With Paramecium, Diran has over 100 appearances on Jazz festivals across Europe & Balkans and also at local jazz scenes such as Lucky Strike Jazz festival in Belgrade where he shared the stage with world most prominent musicians like, Joe Zawinull, Branford Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, The Blues Brothers etc. Also other festivals in Germany, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Austria, Estonia, Belgrade, Croatia, Poland etc. In addition to all this, Tavitjan is the music author of a few multimedia projects, such as for example the feature-length film “Variations of Life”, a film of American production, whose director is Pece Gurcinovski Dingo. The project was highly estimated by several renowned film and music critics, such as for example Marc Isham. As an arranger, Tavitjan has worked with many Macedonian famous pop artists with great success considering the Skopje Fest recent award for best arrangement for the Eurosong contest 2002 in Estonia. In 2002, DIRAN TAVITJAN received the Status “INDEPENDENT ARTIST” from the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Macedonia. Diran also made music for over 100 advertising campaigns (commercials) for the largest companies like Coca Cola, McDonalds, Skopje Brewery, Tikves vinery etc. At the moment Tavitjan is working as composer, arranger and performer and his primary engagement is performing under the name “Tavitjan Brothers” group featuring his brother Garo Tavitjan (Drums). Their CD called “Tavitjan Brothers Trio” was highly estimated by several international music authorities and also acquired a number of reviews from inernational music magazines and internet. This release won on international jazz competition organized by SONY in London, UK. Diran Tavitjan entered among 12 finalist who have their track released by SONYJAZZ label. “Tavitjan brothers” already became the leading music force in Macedonia with over 400 concert performances all around the world and with a number of international awards and CD`s. Diran, along with his brother & father is owner of the music production/recording studio called “Paramecium Production” which gained reputation as one of the finest in Macedonia.

Diran has over 300 concert performances worldwide including: USA, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Albania, Armenia, Poland, Bulgaria etc.
