When I was six years old, my parents started classical piano lessons for me. I didn't even know yet that any other type of music existed. I had never even heard jazz yet. Then, one day at age 10 in 1959, I rode my bicycle to the record store in the mall to browse some records. I heard "Take Five" being played in the record store. I froze in my tracks. I was awe and shock at what I was hearing. I loved it. 5/4 time? What?! The record cost $5. I didn't have $5. I rode my bike back home to scrounge up $5. The next day I returned to the record store to buy my first jazz album, "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck. I played the record on my dad's big wooden cabinet stereo console HiFi stereo. It sounded great. I was lingering on every note. I was amazed and won over forever. I told my parents I wanted to change from classical piano to jazz piano. That went over like a lead balloon. All my parents could envision for me was smoke filled bars and lounges and drug addicts. No way would they let me play jazz. I was highly frustrated to say the least. I eventually lost total interest in playing classical piano so I quit. I also discovered Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and Bill Evans, then Stan Getz and many others. This was where I fit in, but I was only 10 and I had two conservative parents. Through my adult life I have owned rock bands, brass ensembles, I have produced music festivals, recorded in Nashville and performed many of my own concerts as a classical guitarist. Music was my second life. Today I am 100% disabled from war injuries and I cannot perform my instruments anymore. I continued to write songs and poetry throughout my life but just filed my works away. I did not have an outlet for them. Then, one day I read an add on social media about AI generated music. I could use my own lyrics and program AI to set music to my lyrics. I sounded like a perfect fit for me in my health situation. I used my old poetry to create an album of 50 tracks. I loved it.
