Daniel Dickinson is an up-and-coming jazz woodwind specialist, composer, arranger, and recently recorded artist.
About Me
Daniel Dickinson, an up-and-coming talent from Jacksonville, FL, has been musically minded
since his childhood. Having been raised in a musical family and given the blessings of a
musically fruitful upbringing in Lavilla School of the Arts and Douglas Anderson School of the
Arts, his gifts have always pushed him forward to new, big ideas. Within the last few years,
however, his advancement has taken off with unprecedented ferocity, which he will tell you is
due to the tremendous teaching he has received from such world class musicians as Lynne
Arriale, Todd Del Giudice, and Bunky Greene. Daniel's skills in composition, arranging, and
performance on the clarinet, flute, and saxophone in both classical and jazz idioms have
awarded him numerous honors from organizations at the local, state, and national level.
These include the 2011 outstanding soloist award from Downbeat magazine and the Jeep
McCoy scholarship from the North East Florida Jazz Association, to name a few. Daniel has
also written many pieces including one premiered at the JEN convention and recorded by a
group lead by Ulysses Owens, Jr. for his album, “Onward & Upward”.
Daniel has also performed with artists such as the Jacksonville Symphony, The Savannah
Philharmonic, Ben Folds, Jennifer Holliday, The Spinners, and many others. He is also a
member The Mica Bethea Big Band, based in Jacksonville.
Daniel is currently working on an undergraduate double major in jazz studies on the
saxophone and clarinet performance at the University of North Florida, where he has studied
with Bunky Green, Todd Del Giudice, Lynne Arriale, Sunshine Simmons, and Guy Yehuda.
Daniel was accepted to and performed with the 2014 Disney All-American College Band
presented by Yamaha, for which he was selected from a large number of musicians
auditioning from all around the country, covering all degree levels, to form a 21-member
band.
