Cynthia van Roden’s playfulness, lush contralto and sophisticated delivery will transport you back to another era.
Cynthia van Roden’s playfulness, lush contralto and sophisticated delivery will transport you back to another era. This chanteuse performs a unique blend of vintage jazz, swing, standards, saucy tin-pan alley, blues, bossa nova and French songs. Come...and be captivated. ”Impressed? Join the club!” Kansas City Star “Cynthia has a gift for presenting a song in a natural, flowing style. In particular, she has a special knack for telling a story with the lyrics of the song. While many singers downplay the lyrics in favor of vocal athleticism, she retains the true intent of the composer while mixing in a little of herself.” Danny Embrey ~ guitar player “The vocal stylings of Cynthia van Roden will transport you back to the Coconut Grove of the 1940’s. In lilting elegance, she transforms each tune into her own nostalgic and heartfelt remembrance. She’s one of Kansas City’s newest talents and one to be checked out!” Steve Rigazzi ~ bass player ”For a few moments you transported me to NewYork! Thanks, Tom” Written on a cocktail napkin found in the tip jar. ”It might have been the Tanqueray talking but...your voice was as smooth and rich as braised veal. Sure, that sounds strange, but from my perspective it's the highest compliment.” Michael, audience member Cynthia van Roden seems to be able to get at a good mix, as if preparing a simple, but sophisticated, drink. Mixed well, we don’t notice the ingredients as much as the savory blend. Kevin Rabas ~ KC Jazz Ambassador Magazine
