My Jazz Story

Published on: 2019-01-04

I grew up performing classical music as a concert pianist, but got into jazz later on in my career and loved how each performance is different. I composed and released three albums to date, including a new sound blending Sufi music and Indian ragas with a jazz trio. The beauty about jazz is it really gives you a window into the interpreter.

My House Concert Story

I debuted my last two albums at Carnegie Hall——a venue that I had dreamed about ever since I was a little girl. But on the day of the performance, one of my singers had laryngitis which was a huge snag: replacing a Sufi singer at the last minute is not easy! But as miraculous as it sounds, I was able to find a last minute Sufi singer and train him on the day of the performance to sing my original music, and we got a standing ovation despite the setback! The audience loved it. It was a beautiful and surreal experience that neither I nor my band will ever forget.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
