I love jazz because it opens you mind and soul to new levels. I was first exposed to jazz when I heard Clifford Brown. I met George Shearing. The best show I ever attended was Clifford Brown. The first jazz record I bought was Fats Waller on Stride Piano. My advice to new listeners: Don't think too much, or worry if you don't understand it, just close your eyes & let it wash over you. There are very many different styles in Jazz, from Slow Blues, Ragtime, and Boogie, to Swing, Latin, Be-bop, Modal,(like the tune "So What"), Mainstream (Miles, John Coltrane), Fusion, with synthesizer, electric bass etc. usually with a Rock or Latin rhythm, Free Jazz (no songs or the usual chords and harmony) Free Jazz can be in Jazz feel, with a swinging beat, or Modern Classical that flows through many colors and moods.
