About Me

Bryan Smith is an engaging saxophonist and composer. Smith's enticing melodies, contemplative musical landscapes and drifting harmonic progressions create a refreshing and innovative setting in today’s jazz world.

Bryan Smith is currently a Seattle based Saxophonist. Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Smith began his musical training in jazz under the tutelage of Ben and Michelle Medler, founders of the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra. Smith left his hometown of Portland to attend Northern Arizona University on a full tuition scholarship. Here, Smith continued his music under the guidance of bassist Joel DiBartelo and saxophonist Jonathan Bergeron. While attending Northern Arizona University, Smith began developing his classical performance. In 2006, Smith was named winner of the Northern Arizona University Concerto Competition and performed Jacques Ibert’s Concertino da Camera with the Northern Arizona University Symphony Orchestra. After graduation, Smith returned to the Pacific Northwest to further his studies as a graduate student of music at the University of Washington. Smith has continued both his jazz and classical studies under Michael Brockman. Since moving to Seattle, Smith has performed with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, Anomie Belle, Darren Kleintet, Andrew Oliver, The Miranda Syndicate and was a guest performer for the saxophone master Dr. Eugene Rousseau at the 2009 North American Saxophone Alliance conference held in Moscow, Idaho. Smith is currently performing in and around Seattle, WA.
