Brass Impact! Jazz Ensemble

About Me

The Group Brass Impact! are one of the newest and most exciting groups to hit the Scottish jazz scene. Based in Paisley, and playing in the style of the ever popular big bands, the main aim of the group is to provide our members and audiences with the opportunity to experience big band, with big attitude. Our horn section, made up of 5 trumpets, 3 mellophones (alto voice), 2 tenor saxophones and 4 baritones (trombone voice) gives us our very unique and exciting sound. This is complimented with a driving rhythm section consisting of bass guitar, jazz/acoustic guitar, keyboard, vibraphone, latin effect percussion and a drum kit. We also feature a number of talented soloists and vocalists. The Sound Our unique sound comes from the use of non-traditional big band instruments such as 'forward facing' baritones (providing the trombone voice) and the very distinctive mellophones, which produce a sound similar to that of the mellophoniums used by the Stan Kenton Orchestra in the early 1960's (you can see photos of these unique instruments opposite) Mixed cleverly with the more traditional trumpets and tenor saxophones, the baritones and mellophones give Brass Impact! their unique sound and allow them to add that extra 'kick' to the big swing numbers, as well as a rich, warm and luscious sound for the most delicate of ballads and vocal arrangements. The drive and excitement of our 6 piece rhythm sections adds the finishing touches to our unique presentation. Brass Impact put 'BIG' back into Big Band
