My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it gives me a kick, both as a performer as well as a listener. I was first exposed to jazz when I was in highschool. I met Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Willie Jones III, Benjamin Herman, Ack van Rooyen a.o. The best show I ever attended was Joe Henderson with George Mraz and Al Foster at North Sea and Branford Marsalis, Robert Hurst and Jeff "Tain" Watts at Jazz Mecca Maastricht. The first jazz record I bought was Art Blakey - A night at Birdland My advice to new listeners: take your time and explore! Or whatever else you have in mind: Jazz photography, another way of exploring jazz.
