About Me
My Jazz Story
I love jazz because I love the concept of improvising on the spot and being in the moment.
I was first exposed to jazz at an early age. My parents had good taste in music and I
listened to whatever they played like Louis Armstrong,Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Ella
Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.
I met Marvin Jong, a local pianist and jazz educator when I was 13. He teaches me
Saxophone and still does.
The best show I ever attended so far was the World Animal Groove Festival. That was when
I met Natasha Patamapongs and her Mellow Motif band.
The first jazz record I bought was Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue".
My advice to new listeners, don't be intimidated by all the records. Go for what turns you
on. Start by listening to Satchmo', then Duke, then Bird, Diz and Monk, then Trane and the
list goes on...
My dream is to bring Jazz to the music mainstream of my country, Malaysia and fuse Jazz
with the sounds of Borneo.
