About Me
My Jazz Story
Jazz is the most wonderful medium for self-expression and creativity. I was first exposed it whilst studying for a classical saxophone degree at the Birmingham
Conservatoire - I was hugely influenced by Cannonball Adderley, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett and Michael Brecker and immediately began teaching myself jazz
theory and
improvisation. By the time I graduated I was performing exclusively jazz and jazz-influenced music. I met Joshua Redman whilst he was rehearsing with the City Of
Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra and was thrilled that he signed a copy of my favourite album of his 'Hide And Seek'. My advice to new listeners it to listen to what you love -
don't feel you
'should' like a particular artist because other people speak highly of them. There are so many different forms of jazz, including jazz-influenced genres that you just
need to find what
speaks to your heart.
