My Jazz Story
I love jazz because it gives me lots of freedom
(as far as rhythm, phrasing, melody line and
choice of sound is concerned).
I was first exposed to jazz accidentally, when I
heard Ella Fitzgerald singing. I think it was
Jersey Bounce, and since then I was
hooked. The first jazz record I ever bought was
"Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie" by Ella, and
my favourite jazz records are
Michael Brecker's "Tales From The Hudson"
and Dave Holland's "World Trio".
My House Concert Story
I attended and hosted many house concerts in small venues and a few quite large living rooms (in the Netherlands it's quite popular). I like the intimate atmosphere, the fact that the audience consists of people legitimately interested in the performer, and usually knows the music that is played (including originals).
