Andy's talents in the "Sweet Science" range from straight ahead jazz to modern, bop/hard/post/bop, free jazz, to funk to fusion.
Different palates are the spice of music and his percussive attitudes. From mellow and hot brush work to jazz rock fusion power, he does it all. He is the leader of his own jazz band (cleverly named “The Andy Polay Bands”) with a host of on-call musicians including iconic keyboardist Rahn Burton (Roland Kirk, Turrentine and many more credits), bassist Bill Davis (Sun Ra, Ray Charles and many more), guitarist Margaret Slovak and a host of horns and singers to bring to any occasion. The band has played before thousands and in more intimate settings around the New York area, including the famed Rainbow Room in NYC, jazz festivals, clubs, benefits and private parties. Polay uses different woods and metals in concert with different devices to achieve interesting results, but is right at home with the straight ahead. Whether playing with his own band, or with other ensembles, he can be found playing anything from standards to the avante' garde. No matter what the venue or the musical flavor required, his energy and vibe are sure to please.
