Andrew Esch

About Me

Andrew Esch is a young trumpeter hailing from Hillsborough, North Carolina. He began his journey as a musician studying classical and jazz trumpet with revered trumpet player, Jim Ketch, the director of Jazz studies at the University of North Carolina. After meeting and performing with trumpeter Terell Stafford, he was offered to study at Temple University with the Mimsy Katz Musician Scholarship in the Boyer College of Music and Dance Jazz Performance department. He received the Billy Strayhorn Award in 2022, celebrating students in the Boyer Jazz program who displayed an appreciation of tradition, musicality, and innovation whilst inspiring other musicians. While studying privately under the direction of Terrel Stafford, John Swana, and Tim Warfield Jr, he performed regularly with groups around Philadelphia such as Josh Lee and the Extended Family, the Mogi Taylor Quintet, Too Phat Brass Band, Sugarbomb Philly, East Coast Entertainment, and the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus. Andrew has also played on the road extensively with various big bands such as Triangle Jazz Ensemble, Gardyn Jazz Orchestra, and Temple University Jazz Band at venues ranging from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, to Chris’s Jazz Cafe, to the MET Philly, and more. Currently graduated with an MM in Jazz performance, he is refining his craft and performing regularly under his own name with the Andrew Esch Trio, along with freelance commercial work such as weddings and private events.
