JAZZ - A true American music art form, jazz is mostly noted for it’s rich rhythmic patterns, different improvisational styles, and varying forms of performance techniques. July 12, 2014 – Alvin Reyes, Nice and Easy. Vocal performance with a jazz trio in 2 sets. Using the above definition of jazz, the songs I will be performing in two sets, will vary greatly and encompass not only different decades in music but will also cross-over to other genres. Classic jazz standards from Cole Porter to the Bergmans, music by Bread and Sting and original Brazilian and Pilipino music in between will be interpreted. The world of improvisation is an interesting and challenging stuff and therefore will require master musicians who will join and complete this musical journey with me. I have assembled an all-star trio in Richard Simon on acoustic double bass (www.richardsimon.com), who is a well-known session musician and educator and who has performed live and recorded with great performers like Bill Henderson and Anita O’Day (to name a few); Jake Reed on drums (jakereedmusic.com), who graduated from the USC Thornton School of Music with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies and where he studied with Peter Erskine; Winston “Manong” Raval (www.winstonravaljazz.com) on piano and my music director, earning the “master” nickname among local Filipino-American jazz enthusiasts. He has received Lifetime Achievement awards from various FilAm Jazz Societies because of his extensive knowledge in music and masterful piano performances. He is also lauded as a great composer and arranger and has scored a number of Filipino movies utilizing the varying forms of jazz grooves. Ner de Leon, premiere smooth jazz saxophonist will also join in a few songs to add additional flavour to the night's creativity and finally world- class vocalist Mon David and Patti Austin protege Lianna Gutierrez will complete the set. The evening of July 12 promises to be a relaxed Sunday affair for music fans, particularly those who are familiar with the cool grooves of West Coast jazz. Hence, Nice and Easy…
