Composer/Songwriter, Allen Jay Friedman (Allen Jay) is a ''Music Designer.'' He plays the musical spectrum. At the Keys for over 50 years to Express the Art of Music Design.'' He specializes in original music featuring jazz piano and jazz organ. A composer should never put limitation on himself by achieving in one style of music and say, “that’s it, I’m satisfied,” but should have freedom of expression in all there is…like the billions of stars, I am a “GALAXY BEING,” – no more, no less. MUSIC WITHOUT BOUNDARIES!
My Jazz Story
I met Erroll Garner at The Theatrical Grill
in Cleveland a few hours before our
family was to see him on stage at
Severance Hall. That was 49 years ago
and I
was only 15! I spotted him nearby in a
booth wearing a beautiful tux with a
great white napkin draped over him! I
was a little nervous as I approached him
(he was eating shrimp cocktail) and said,
"Mr. Garner, I love playing the piano... is
there any advice you could give me?'' He
hesitated, then looked back at
me and said, "Keep playin'....don't stop!''
That was great advice because at 64
years old, I'm still playin' and haven't
stopped!
