About Me

Italian-born, London-based singer-songwriter, pianist and loop artist.

Born and raised in Rome, Alessia Piermarini is a singer-songwriter, pianist and loop virtuoso who moved to London over 10 years ago. Over the course of her career, she has collaborated with renowned american artists such as Ursula Rucker and Jaguar Wright (featuring on Alessia’s solo album) and opened for Frank McComb at London iconic Jazz Café. Her unique style blends elements of Jazz, Nu-Soul, Hip Hop, and Spoken Word Poetry. Alessia is also a passionate blogger and writer, occasionally performing her written works live, accompanied by her loop machine. She recently released her single Not Mine, a powerful reflection on the climate crisis, featuring some of the finest musicians from the London jazz scene. The track was well received by both radio stations and DJs, earning airplay on the BBC. She’s also deeply committed to using music to support vulnerable communities: currently she works as a performer and vocal facilitator at one of London’s oldest male prisons, where she shares the transformative power of music with those who need it most.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's my retirement plan. I see myself when I'm 80 or even 90 playing a grand piano I'll be able to afford and singing old jazz standard with a fireplace on and some candles around me. No matter how much you study, there's always going to be more to learn, more to practise and mostly, you never play the same song twice. Improvising is like throwing yourself from a plane, and if you really know the song and its harmony well, you know that a net is waiting for you at some point!

My House Concert Story

I went to Marjorie's Sunday Jazz in Brooklyn, an incredible jazz house gig that has been happening for more than 40 years, come rain or come shine, every Sunday! Marjorie is the 85 yr old host, she plays the piano as well as her son, they have an upbright piano to the wall, they invite friends over to jam with them. In the break she offers a fresh colourful drink. The even it filled with magic: not only because you can really listen to how jazz should be played, with talent, skills and heart, but because the audience attending is so mixed: from the neighbours in their slippers and hair curlers, to the posh jazz journalist of famous newspapers.
