About Me
Ahmed Nazmi is considered to be one of the most inspiring bass players in Egypt. Since a young age Nazmi has been very interested in playing Egyptian traditional music, using varying instruments, as well as exploring global music. Between the ages of 6-15 he played the Egyptian Oud (lute), classical guitar, and drums. At age 15 he discovered his passion for playing the bass; this passion lead him from his hometown Mitt Ghamr to Cairo where the diverse music scene allowed his musicianship to quickly mature and develop. As he continues to develop his musicianship and professional signature he delicately balances traditional Egyptian music, fusion jazz, and, more recently, the music of Africa into his playing and distinctive style. His distinctive playing blends the tradition of contemporary bass playing with his Egyptian heritage. This delicate balance of such varying musical formats provides him an edge that is unparalleled in the current musical scene and spurs him to continue to explore new musical experiences. Nazmi is personally, and professionally, strongly tied to his Egyptian roots. He is revisiting his heritage in his newest evolution of sound, which provides the listener insight into the complexities of life in the Middle East during the current political upheavals in the region. Nazmi has toured internationally with his band The Hot Potato Project, and with Yehya Khalil. More recently, he has toured throughout Europe with A Fula’s Call, Marc Bischoff, Omar Ka, 6 Spoons, 1 Kitchen Group (Netherlands based Artists) and Grammy Award winning Fathy Salama.
