My Jazz Story
I love jazz because it’s music of the soul.
I was first exposed to jazz by my dad, as a
youngster growing up in Detroit. I was
exposed to all types of music growing up
but jazz has always been my favorite. In
the last 2 years, I’ve been able to embrace
my love for jazz by attending the Detroit
JazzFest - significant because I’ve lived in
GA for almost 25 years but I’ve been
intentional about coming home to the Jazz
Fest.
I met Kirk Whalum in the 90’s and he was
one of the most down to earth talents I’ve
ever had the pleasure of meeting. I still
have the CD HE autographed for me after
one of his concerts in Detroit. I also met
the late Joe Sample and he was very
gracious.
I’m excited about interacting g with this
site - was turned on to it by a dear friend
who sent me a review of Joey Alexander’s
new album - Continuance.
