Adrian Mira - clarinetist, saxophonist, teacher, composer

Adrian Mira -short bio (english) Adrian Mira (Clarinetist/Saxophonist/Flutist) was born 1973 in Switzerland. He graduated from the Academy of Music Zurich Winterthur, Switzerland (Classical Clarinet, cum laude), further studies at the Jazz School Zurich (Saxophone and Clarinet), followed by additional private studies in New York City with various teachers on both instruments. He has performed a lot of different styles of music in many bands, projects and orchestras in Switzerland and abroad. Among others he was leading his own classical chamber music Trio and was the reed player of the Swiss jazz band “Kamala” that is blending Indian melodies and rhythms with jazz. Kamala recorded two CDs on Brambus Records, “Orientalspacejazz” in 2000 and “Indian Songbook” in 2003 and was playing extensively in Switzerland, including various Jazz Festivals in Europe. Adrian Mira is also collaborating on a regular basis with different choirs as a clarinet/saxophone soloist and, besides his performing, he was teaching extensively in Switzerland: instrumental lessons, chamber music, public school lessons etc. Since 2004 he is mainly based in New York City, performing on a regular basis with his own groups and as a freelancing clarinetist/saxophonist in various other projects: jazz, classical, ethno, pop etc. Further, he was the clarinetist in the Jewish musical “A Stoop on Orchard Street” in NYC and the clarinetist in the NYC based Jewish musical “Picon Pie” that featured him as a Klezmer Clarinetist. Adrian Mira also performes frequently outside NYC in other US states. Besided his performing, Adrian Mira also is teaching reed instruments at various public schools in New York City. In 2008 Adrian Mira played classical recitals in Lithuania as a featured soloist in the Sugrizimai festival. In 2008 in Switzerland he was one of the reedplayers in the Musical “Cabaret”, performing (most of the shows sold out) with the orchestra St. Gallen and international cast. Lately, besides his various sideman activities, Adrian Mira also focuses on his own music and is about to release the CD “Acoustic Journeys”, all original music of his, in the world jazz genre.
