Abdul Moimême

Abdul Moimême is a Lisbon based musician and active member of the cities free improvisation scene.

About Me

He plays the electric guitar in a horizontal position, shaping its sound through the use of a myriad of objects and electronic devices in a prepared guitar approach.

He has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including: Axel Dörner, Albert Cirera, Alvaro Rosso, Carlos Zingaro, Carlos Santos, Ernesto Rodrigues, Eve Risser, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Lionel Marchetti, Marco Scarassatti, Mark Dresser, Patrick Brennan, Pedro Melo Alves, and Wade Matthews, among many others.

His discography spans over 60 releases, several of which feature him as a co-leader.

He has been a member of numerous ensembles and groups, including IKB, Insub Meta Orchestra, Suspensão, and Variable Geometry Orchestra.

His performances have taken him across Europe and to Brazil.

In 2019, he was invited by the prestigious Jazz em Agosto festival, titled “Resistance,” to present a solo improvisation.

Since 1999, he has written extensively about jazz for various Portuguese publications, including Flirt, All Jazz, and Jazz.pt magazines, as well as the newspaper Público.

He has been nominated multiple times in the “Annual International Critics Poll” for jazz music.
