Album Description
"Don't You Feel My Leg" is Maria Muldaur's 41st album, and her first studio album in six years. Co-produced with Jacques de Latour, and recorded in New Orleans, the album features some of NOLA’s finest “first-call” musicians. Muldaur pays tribute the Naughty Bawdy Blues of Blue Lu Barker in this stunning set. Blue Lu Barker, a leading female blues vocalist in the 30s and 40s, recorded dozens of blues and jazz releases on Decca, Apollo, and Capitol Records, and was cited by Billie Holiday as her biggest influence. At the suggestion of Dr. John, Barker's composition "Don't You Feel My Leg," was recorded and made it onto Muldaur's self-titled solo debut in 1973, which spawned the million-seller hit, "Midnight At The Oasis." Thus began a friendship between these artists that continued until Blue Lu Barker's death in 1998. In 2016, Muldaur was invited to do a tribute to Blue Lu at the Danny Barker festival in New Orleans, which inspired the creation of this album. Muldaur is a multiple Grammy and Blue Music award nominee, and remains a preeminent interpreter of roots music.
