Album Description

Matrjosjka is a jazz/rock/electric band from Norway, consisting of Cecilie Grundt on saxophones and effects pedals, Ingrid Øygard Steinkopf on fender Rhodes and synth, Tore Hodneland on guitar, and Åsmund Mattias Smidt on drums and percussion. 'Matrjosjka' is their debut self-titled EP released in 2021 on Grundt Records. This EP is the result of what the band has been working on in the recent years. The music draws inspiration from the colorful wooden figure, which separates in the middle to reveal a smaller similar figure inside of it. This structure inspires the band to unite layering of smaller musical ideas into one piece. The instrumentation gives the band the opportunity to explore many different sonic possibilities, where the electrical in the Rhodes and the guitar meets the acoustic in the saxophone and the drums in exciting dynamics. 1.
