Ornette Coleman Curates Meltdown 2009

Over the years, London's annual Meltown festival has had an impressive list of guest curators.

They include Elvis Costello, Scott Walker, John Peel, Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker, Lee Perry and Robert Wyatt. This June's festival will break new ground with its first jazz curator--Ornette Coleman.

The city is already buzzing with speculation about the acts that Coleman will include in the festival. Although none is yet confirmed, smart money is already on Lou Reed, Charlie Haden or John Zorn being included. The only certainty is that Coleman himself will play two concerts based on his seminal albums The Shape of Jazz To Come and This Is Our Music.

Meltdown is at the Southbank Centre, London from 13-21 June.
