The 14th edition of New Conversations Vicenza Jazz will be a major one in the history of this festival, one of the most relevant in the Italian jazz scene. It will be held in Vicenza (Italy) from May 8th to 16th 2009 and it will include several original productions, exclusive concerts and special projects which will give strength to the programme. Three of the original founders of the festival will be working together again: artistic director Riccardo Brazzale, Vicenza's Municipal Councillor for culture Francesca Lazzari and Luca Berton, owner of Panic Jazz Club, one of the most prominent clubs in Italy.

The first musicians announced give a significant example of what the entire festival will look like. Vicenza Jazz 2009 will host a parade of jazz stars such as John Zorn with Uri Caine (engaged in an exclusive encounter which will see both musicians playing solo on Zorn's compositions, then joining forces for a duo), the Buena Vista Social Club orchestra, Jan Garbarek with the Hilliard Ensemble (performing the touching Officium project inside one of the most beautiful cathedrals in town), Dave Holland Quartet, Terence Blanchard, Tom Harrell (who will be artist in residence for 3 days, playing in several settings from duo to big band), Geri Allen Trio with tip tap dancer Maurice Chestnut, the Mingus Dynasty (performing Mingus Ah Um in celebration of the album's 50th anniversary), Yellowjackets The most noticeable name among the many Italian musicians taking part to the festival will be pianist Stefano Bollani, who will perform in solo, quintet and duo with pop star Irene Grandi.

Vicenza Jazz 2009 will be entitled “The jazz which came in from the cold". As the title indicates, many musicians coming from northern Europe will be playing at the festival. Besides Jan Garbarek, Vicenza Jazz 2009 will feature Eivind Aarset, Hkon Kornstad and others to be announced.

All of this would be enough to mark the exceptional level of the 2009 edition of the Vicenza festival, but many more things are still to be announced. There will be after hour concerts in the Jazz Caf Trivellato organized together with Panic Jazz Club, while many side events will be held all around Vicenza: in the streets and squares, in churches and historical buildings, in exhibition halls and inside public institutions, including Vicenza's Conservatory of music.
Such a huge and composite programme is made possible thanks to the contribution of several partners: Trivellato and Mercedes Benz, Vicenza's Fair, Aim, Generali Insurances.
