Album Description

Margaret Slovak's second album, "New Wings," features 11 of her original jazz/classical solo and duo instrumental compositions, along with a classic jazz ballad, "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning," and an enchanting song by Brazilian musician Egberto Gismonti, "Memoria E Fado." The eight duets pair Margaret's nylon-string and electric guitars with three wonderful Portland, Oregon based musicians: acoustic bassist Dave Captein, steel-string guitarist Doug Smith and pianist George Mitchell. The album also contains five solo nylon-string guitar pieces composed and performed by Margaret. This CD is inspired by three people who deeply impacted Margaret's life: her mother, Mary Slovak, her dear friend, Doug Harden, and her friend and mentor, the great bassist LeRoy Vinnegar.
