Richard Bliwas: Uncovered

Richard Bliwas è un artista americano un po' ai margini rispetto alle proposte patinate che arrivano dalle major. I suoi dischi sono opere sempre ben cesellate, spesso un po' allucinate (a Roma lo definirebbero sicuramente un fricchettone) e comunque con un segno ben evidente che racconta una vena artistica da non sottovalutare.

In questo suo Uncovered Bliwas mischia le sue composizioni con una serie di vecchi standard, in buona parte prelevati dal repertorio dei Beatles. Ma non fatevi ingannare dalle apparenze. Le riletture dei brani non originali sono talmente personali che si potrebbe dire che in qualche modo queste canzoni ormai entrate nella memoria collettiva sono state in qualche modo riscritte per essere adattate all'estetica molto peculiare di Richard Bliwas.

Il clima è piuttosto sperimentale, con suoni che si attorcigliano e si rispecchiano, in un calembour pieno di colori e di sottigliezze psichedeliche molto originali. Bliwas canta, suona il pianoforte, l'organo, i synth e le percussioni e si occupa delle manipolazioni sonore. Il chitarrista Ben Sher dà una mano in un paio di brani, la fisarmonica di Sonny Barbato fa capolino nel brano "Moma" e il percussionista Valtinho Anastacio fornisce il suo supporto nel brano "Ticket To Ride," ma sostanzialmente il peso della musica ricade tutto su Bliwas. One man band?
