New York City - On September 12, 1959, the incomparable Nina Simone graced New York's The Town Hall stage, performing and recording a breakthrough concert celebrated ever since by audiences and critics alike. This April 21 her daughter, Simone, an award-winning Broadway star in her own right, will take the same stage to pay tribute to her mother and her legacy. The performance falls on the third anniversary of Nina Simone's death.

Simone, Live at Town Hall: A Tribute To Nina Simone's Historic 1959 Town Hall Performance promises an electrifying evening of classical jazz and blues masterpieces as well as new arrangements. Simone will perform some of the same numbers her mother performed 46 years ago - classics like “Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair," “Summertime" and “Fine and Mellow" - as well as songs from her own repertoire, all in her inimitable style.

Winner of a National Broadway Theatre Award for best actress in a musical, Simone was born Lisa Celeste Stroud in Westchester, N.Y., and was brought up in North America, Africa and Europe. A member of the original Broadway cast of RENT, she was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award and a Jefferson Award for her portrayal of Mimi Marquez in that show. She won the National Broadway Theatre Award for her lead role in the original national tour of AIDA, and she returned to Broadway to star in that role for more than two years. She performed with the Chicago-based group Liquid Soul on their 2000 Grammy-nominated album, Here's the Deal. In 1999 she realized her lifelong dream of performing with her mother. She appeared alongside Nina Simone at the Guinness Blues Festival in Dublin and opened for her at Royal Albert Hall in London.

On April 21 at The Town Hall, Simone will collaborate with Al Schackman and the original Nina Simone Band to revisit her mother's historic performance in what promises to be a magical, unforgettable evening all its own.

Tickets are $37.50 and $32.50, available thru at The Town Hall Box Office, 212-840-2824 OR thru Ticketmaster.

Built in 1921 by a group of suffragettes The Town Hall began as a lecture hall and public forum for debates. Landmarked in 1979, it has become widely known for its outstanding acoustics and eclectic music programs. Over the decades the stage has been graced by Eleanor Roosevelt, Billie Holiday, Igor Stravinsky, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Billy Joel and Blondie. Today the hall flourishes as a popular, affordable venue, boasting the hottest acts in rock, pop, folk, cabaret, world music, comedy and dance, including Ravi Shankar, Elvis Costello, Eddie Izzard, Natalie Merchant, Graham Nash, Liza Minelli, Gillian Welch, Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainright, Norah Jones, Margaret Cho and Andre Watts. For over a decade, The Town Hall has hosted live broadcasts of Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, as well as the annual Cabaret Convention.
