BOSTON, MA (June 2005) - The BeanTown Jazz Festival, held in Boston’s historic South End on Columbus Avenue, will mark its 5th year by opening one day sooner, both expanding and intensifying its jazz music performances, family fun and cuisine from Boston’s top restaurants. Jazz Fest Producer/Darryl Settles said, “Adding a day to the Jazz Fest has given us the ability to go even deeper into the jazz culture, highlighting both the classic and the current like never before.”

The opening night concert, presented by Berklee College of Music, is set for Friday, September 23rd at the Berklee Performance Center, and the Festival will continue on Saturday, September 24th from 12:00 noon to 7:00pm. The event, expected to attract over 40,000 music lovers throughout the day, will benefit Prostate Cancer Awareness & Research.

As usual, the BeanTown Jazz Festival has been booked with handpicked musicians to entertain throughout the day. Darryl Settles: “Last year's festival was an extreme success, the festival grew and gained additional media recognition across New England, spiraling the 5th Annual Jazz Festival into a very special light. The BeanTown Jazz Festival continues to gain momentum, and ranks with other big-city summer jazz festivals, perhaps more so because Boston is truly a one-of-a-kind city with rich jazz history."

In addition to the music, presented simultaneously on 3 stages, the BeanTown Jazz Festival will also offer an incomparable array of multicultural food, provided by top restaurants including Bob the Chef’s Jazz Café, Tremont 647, Jake’s Boss BBQ, FireFly’s, Bukhara and more, plus an interactive family entertainment area.

This year’s major sponsors include Sovereign Bank, City of Boston, Citizens Bank, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of MA, Dunkin’ Donuts, Northeastern University, Comcast, and Yale Electric. The BeanTown Jazz Festival thanks all sponsors for their continued support. Additional information, tickets for Friday’s concert, and schedule of performances will be available on our website at www.BeanTownJazz.org. Though all entertainment is FREE to the public at Saturday’s festival, donations of $5.00 or more are welcome.
