From the Company that brought you “FROM GOSPEL TO HIP-HOP & ALL IN BETWEEN" and the critically acclaimed story of “COOTA AND THE MAGIC QUILT" comes...

THE NEW AND IMPROVED “HARLEM RENAISSANCE REVISITED WITH BOSTON FLAVOR!"

For the seventh consecutive year, HARLEM RENAISSANCE REVISITED WITH BOSTON FLAVOR will take the stage. An exquisite musical written and produced by HAYWOOD FENNELL, SR., this show features some of Boston's most radiant performing artists.

This year's production will feature new music and new choreography by award-winning dance prodigy CYRUS BROOKS, and is to be directed by FRANCES ST. GEORGE INGRAM.

This portrayal of Negro artisans takes place during the Harlem Renaissance Period. It is during this era that many Negroes, because of Jim Crow laws, sought residence in Europe; where racism would not interfere with their artistic developments.

At the same time, there were other leading Negro artists that remained in the United States, with many of them working and living in Harlem, the Black metropolis of New York City.

One strong patron of Negro Art, and very successful businesswoman, was Madame CJ Walker. She did not believe that Langston Hughes, or any other Negro artist, should leave the country where their forefathers were slaves, and she helped in an enormous way to build.

Madame Walker decides to have a party at “Evelyn's Delight," a hang place in Harlem for Langston Hughes, who has returned to New York after some success in Europe as a writer. She wants to use this party of welcome to say, “Stay home." She has invited many other artist friends of Langston's to attend the party.

This show opens on May 26 and closes on May 28, 2005. Performances will be held nightly at the Media and Performing Arts Center at Roxbury Community College.
