Tiempo Libre Performing at Dizzys at Lincoln Center on June 30th

The sizzling, dance-inducing, two-time Grammy-nominated Cuban music group Tiempo Libre will perform at Dizzys Club Coca-Cola on Tuesday, June 30th at 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased by calling 212 258-9595 and online at www.jalc.org/dccc. Dizzy's is located in the Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, 5th floor, 60th Street and Broadway.

Tiempo Libre's show is a dynamic, high-voltage and passionate performance of timba music - an exciting and engaging combination of Latin jazz and traditional Cuban son. Their goal is to serve as ambassadors to Cuba's musical heritage, while celebrating the American experience. There hasn't been a concert yet where people haven't gotten out of their seats to dance.

Tiempo Libre's members were all classically trained in Cuba's premiere conservatories at a time when it was illegal to listen to American songs on the radio. Now they are a sensation in the U.S., with concerts all around the country, two consecutive Grammy nominations and a new Cuban music CD on Sony Masterworks titled, Bach in Havana, released May on 5.

Bach in Havana, released on May 5th by Sony Masterworks, takes Bach as a starting point from which to explore Cuban music and rhythms and features Paquito d'Rivera and Yosvanny Terry on guest tracks. The CD celebrates the two worlds of Tiempo Libre's Cuban musical heritage: the classical music they studied by day at Havana's premiere conservatory and the traditional Cuban music they met up to perform at night: timba, Latin jazz as well as the rumba and the music of tambores which were forbidden at La ENA.

This spring, the band is enjoying another accolade: the family behind Bustelo Caf (which fled Cuba in the 1930's) has changed it coffee can design for the first time in 80 years to feature Tiempo Libre on the can, with a free download of Bach in Havana.
