Pasadena, CA -- LA Music Academy (http://www.lamusicacademy.edu), fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, announced today that the renowned Richie Gajate Garcia will teach the school's hand percussion classes, effective immediately. Garcia was recently voted one of the top Latin percussionists in Modern Drummer magazine's Reader's Poll and as well as a top Rock percussionist in DRUM! magazine's Reader's Poll. Gajate, originally from Puerto Rico, is a sought after expert percussionist who has accompanied artists such as Phil Collins, Sting, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Diana Ross, Hiroshima, Patti Labelle, Amy Grant, Brooks and Dunn, Luis Miguel, John Denver and Art Garfunkel to name a few.

“Richie is a great asset to our teaching staff and the students are already buzzing about his new position at the Academy," says Mike Packer, Director of Educational Operations. “We chose Richie because his passion and experience is immeasurable and we are confident our students will learn many priceless lessons from one of the best percussionists in the world."

Additionally, Garcia has teamed with Tierney Sutton, head of the Vocal Department to create a “Percussion for Vocalists" class. Packer adds, “It's important that our students not only learn about the history of percussion instruments, but also the elements that will encourage vocalists to become proficient with rhythm, time and groove."
