The Whiteweld Foundation Concert Series Presents Chuck Mangione And His Thirty Piece Orchestra, Live At Lincoln Center

Concert is a Fund-Raiser to Benefit Project Kids Worldwide

New York, NY– The Whiteweld Foundation Concert Series presents Chuck Mangione with his 30-piece orchestra in concert at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, located at Columbus Avenue and 65th Street, on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 8:00 PM. The concert is a fund-raiser with proceeds to benefit Project Kids Worldwide, a charity supported by Chuck Mangione. This show is the third concert in a series sponsored by The Whiteweld Foundation, a charitable foundation dedicated to promoting the health, education, and welfare of children throughout the world. The show is also being co-sponsored by Wells Fargo.

The mission of Project Kids Worldwide is to bring impoverished children with heart disease from underprivileged countries to the United States so they can undergo life-saving surgery. They design sustainable healthcare programs and policies and work in partnership with the medical communities and civil authorities in disadvantaged nations to improve the quality of healthcare practices for children.

Chuck Mangione and his wife are major supporters of Project Kids Worldwide. “We have learned how so many children are being saved from potentially terminal and critical heart disease thanks to Project Kids Worldwide,” said Mangione. “It’s wonderful working with The Whiteweld Foundation and I’m very impressed by their commitment to help children. Their mission perfectly aligns with Project Kids Worldwide and this concert should raise important funds to help very deserving children.”

“The Whiteweld Foundation is a unique organization because they’re not only raising money for charities but they’re doing it through music,” added Mangione. “Instead of the usual charity gala or golf tournament, they’re presenting artists at premier concert halls and donating proceeds to help worthy organizations. Not only will people have the rare opportunity to hear music performed in an orchestral setting but they can walk away knowing that they’ve done something important to help a wonderful cause. It’s a great formula for success.”

“The Whiteweld Foundation is delighted to work with Chuck Mangione not only because he’s such an incredible talent but also because of his personal involvement with Project Kids Worldwide,” said John Johnson, President and Managing Director of The Whiteweld Foundation. “It’s a true honor to work with such a jazz legend and humanitarian and we hope this concert will raise awareness of the Foundation’s efforts to sponsor events that will support children’s charities.”

About Chuck Mangione
Chuck Mangione has injected energy, skill and enthusiasm into his music for more than five decades, establishing himself as a legendary performer and composer with a loyal multigenerational fan base. Mangione’s music is world-renowned and he’s recognized for his trademark hat. To quote Jim McCay of ABC’s Wide World of Sports “he is the world’s foremost practitioner of the Flugelhorn”.

Over the years Mangione has compiled an impressive discography with recordings on labels, including Mercury, Colombia and A&M. He won his first Grammy in 1976 (best instrumental composition) for “Bellavia; followed by a second Grammy win in 1978 for “Children of Sanchez”. In addition to his numerous Grammy nominations and awards, Mangione won an Emmy for his 1980 Winter Olympics Theme, “Give It All You Got.” Recently Smooth Jazz radio stations throughout the country recognized Mangione’s immortal classic, “Feels So Good,” as their all time #1 song.

Chuck Mangione has also appeared on numerous television shows, including The Tonight Show, Larry King, Soul Train, Solid Gold and many others. He is currently caricatured on the hit Fox TV show, ‘King of The Hill.’ Since 2000 Mangione has recorded two very well received albums for Chesky Records, “The Feelings Back” and “Everything for Love.”
