Jazz Stars to Sail on First-Ever Playboy Jazz Cruise

The Playboy Jazz Festival will take to the high seas when it teams up with Jazz Cruises LLC to present the first-ever Playboy Jazz Cruise in celebration of the Festival's 30th anniversary. Renowned bassist Marcus Miller will serve as musical host for the cruise, which will feature 2008 Grammy winner Herbie Hancock as a special guest, along with a lineup of legendary stars.



The inaugural cruise will set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Holland America's luxurious M/S Westerdam, from January 25th to February 1st, 2009, for the exciting ports of San Juan, Saint Barth's, Nevis, and the private island of Half Moon Cay.



With performances scheduled every evening, and during afternoons at sea, passengers will experience the finest jazz entertainment in keeping with the Playboy Jazz Festival's reputation for presenting the who's who of jazz.



Joining Miller and Hancock on the inaugural voyage will be vocalist Dianne Reeves, considered one of the pre-eminent female jazz vocalists in the world. Festival favorite, blues guitarist and singer/songwriter Keb' Mo', will bring his distinct brand of blues to the mix. Sure to spice up the onboard party is Poncho Sanchez, leader of one of the most popular Latin jazz groups in the world.



One of the most enduring figures in modern jazz, master saxophonist James Moody will also perform, as will premier trumpeter Roy Hargrove,saxophone virtuoso James Carter, and dazzling young jazz pianist Eldar.Rounding out the lineup are vocalist Roberta Gambarini and New Orleans' famous New Birth Brass Band.
