Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis - The two modern masters met up last year at Rose Hall @ Lincoln Center in NYC for a take on the blues & standards and the concert was thankfully recorded by the adjoining Lincoln Center studios. The set features Nelson on vocals and Django Rheinhardt-inspired guitar along with Wynton and his working group of Walter Blanding on sax, Dan Nimmer on piano, Carlos Henriquez on bass, and Ali Jackson on drums. We also find in the mix Nelson's wonderful harmonica player Mickey Raphael. Willie revisits “Stardust" with Marsalis accompanying and the album also boasts chestnuts like “Georgia," “Basin Street Blues," and playful classics like “My Bucket's Got A Hole In It" and “That's All." The album was mastered earlier this week.

Wynton Marsalis - Marsalis' other installment for Blue Note is the He and She album, a romantic-themed conceptual album of original music based on a poem penned by Wynton. Reinforcing this are programmatic pieces like “First Crush," First Slow Dance," and “First Kiss." This project features Marsalis' working group as listed above and the album is currently being mixed.

Aaron Parks - Has finished tracking and mixing a refreshingly bold debut album with a film noir feel, aptly titled Invisible Cinema. It's a quartet record of all original materiel with Matt Penman on bass, Eric Harland on drums, and Mike Moreno on guitar. The tracks are ambitiously arranged but played with wonderfully mature, lyrical group interplay. Parks will master next week.

Kristina Train - This young soulful chanteuse hails from Savannah, Georgia and has recently moved up north. Train is currently writing material with various songwriters from around the country and on the other side of the pond, primarily with Jimmy Hogarth and Eg White in London, England fresh of their success with UK sensation Duffy.

Blue Note 70th Anniversary All-Stars - To celebrate Blue Note's 70th anniversary in 2009 we have assembled a truly all star band that will record at the end of May. The band features our own Bill Charlap on piano, Ravi Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Steve Wilson on alto sax, Nicolas Payton on trumpet, Pat Martino on guitar, Peter Washington on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. The group will record new arrangements of Blue Note classics by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, and more. The album will be released in January to coincide with a 50-date tour across the U.S. during which this incredible band will spread the Blue Note gospel.
