A four-day John Coltrane celebration, Sheets of Sound: The John Coltrane Summit" begins today, Monday, November 6 and continues through Thursday, November 9, at New York's Manhattan School of Music. This four-day event offers concerts, panel discussions, and open rehearsals covering John Coltrane, his legacy, and his music. A concert highlight takes place on Thursday night when the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Justin DiCioccio, joined by saxophonist Dave Liebman, perform the world premiere of Gunnar Mossblad's arrangement for jazz orchestra of the Meditations suite.

Monday, November 6, 7:30pm: opening session with DAVE LIEBMAN, played will be examples from Coltrane's repertoire beginning with the apprenticeship with Dizzy Gillespie and Johnny Hodges, through the Miles Davis period, followed by the Classic Quartet, and ending with the 'free' jazz period
