Toronto - One of the most accomplished bassists in contemporary jazz, Dave Holland, returns to Toronto with a stellar cast of musicians on Friday, October 13, 2006.

Presented by Toronto Downtown Jazz and Emerge Entertainment, the Dave Holland Quintet has been hailed as one of the finest quintets assembled over the last decade. Nominated for two Grammy's and winner of numerous polls, collectively, their resumes read like a list of who's who in jazz. Their latest album, Critical Mass, is their first release in over three years and is a reflection of Holland's experiences during his career to date.

Composer, leader, educator and celebrated bassist, Holland began playing the ukulele at the tender age of four. Since then he has gone on to master the bass and has played with jazz giants such as Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, contributing to the latter's role in the evolution of jazz fusion. Holland appeared on a number of recordings during this time with Davis, including Bitches Brew and In A Silent Way. Holland's career is perhaps most noted for his long musical relationship with Sam Rivers that dates back to the early 1970s. As an educator, Holland has held appointments at the Banff School in Alberta and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Joining Holland at The Music Hall is Chris Potter, one of the most talented saxophonists of his generation and Robin Eubanks, a gifted trombonist that hails from a truly musical family. Holland's quintet is rounded out with Nate Smith on drums and Steve Nelson on vibes.
