John Zorn's Acoustic Masada - Second show added!

TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival and RMS are pleased to announce that a second show for John Zorn's Acoustic Masada has been added on Wednesday, June 28, 10pm at The Music Hall. Sponsored by Eye Weekly. Previously announced is an earlier performance at 7pm, some tickets are still available. Tickets for the new show are $40 and $55, on sale Thursday, June 8 at 10am at Ticketmaster, Soundscapes and Rotate This.

Started in 1994, Masada has quickly become one of Zorn's most popular and adventurous musical projects. The Masada songbook is an attempt at forging a new form of Jewish music, one consciously rooted in the past and with an eye to the future of Jewish culture.

Joining Zorn will be an impressive cast of musicians. Trumpeter Dave Douglas is widely recognized as one of the most important and original American musicians to emerge from the jazz and the improvised music scene of the last decade. His collaborations as a trumpeter read like a who's who of important contemporary artists: Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell, Andy Bey, Tom Waits, and many others. Greg Cohen is a fantastic bassist, who seems to have mastered every possible jazz idiom. Moving between producing, composing, arranging and bass playing has always been an important part of Cohen's process. Joey Baron is a largely self-taught drummer by means of watching others play and listening to recordings, radio and television. Besides being a member of the Bill Frisell Band for ten years until 1995, he has performed and recorded with an impressive list of musicians - including Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, David Bowie, The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Philip Glass.

Roy Ayers and the Original Superstars of Jazz Fusion

Vibraphone master Roy Ayers will bring his unique blend of R&B, jazz and funk to Harbourfront Centre on Thursday, June 29 when he performs with the Original Superstars of Jazz Fusion. Featuring Jean Carne, Wayne Henderson, Bobbi Humphrey, Ronnie Laws, Lonnie Liston Smith and Jon Lucien, relive groove classics such as Sunshine, Running Away and Searchin' with one of the most prolific artists today. With a career spanning over forty years, Ayers is one of the most sampled artists in the music industry and is commonly thought of as the prophet of acid jazz.

With collaborations that include The Roots, Afrobeat master Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Herbie Mann and Gang Starr emcee Guru, Ayers continues to have a profound effect on the music of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Tickets on sale now - $49.50 at Ticketmaster, Rotate This and Play de Record. Produced in association with REMG.
